Pet First-Aid By Animal Love

In the world of pet care, accidents can happen at any time. Understanding the basics of pet first-aid is not just an advantage; it’s essential. At Purrfect Day Pet Care, we believe that every pet owner should be equipped with the knowledge and skills to handle emergencies. Whether it’s a minor cut or a more serious health issue, being prepared can make a significant difference in your pet's recovery and comfort. Sophie at Animal Love explains how she first started teaching pet first-aid and the critical role it plays in the responsibilities as a pet owner.

"Having worked as a vet for 16 years, mainly in the emergency out of hours sector, I began to realise that owners were often not armed with the everyday and lifesaving knowledge that would hugely benefit them and their dogs. This is where Animal Love was born, a teaching platform offering owners and pet professionals courses in health, well-being and first aid alongside educational webinars to help pet owners and professionals to deal with a variety of situations."

"As a conventional vet with a holistic approach, consideration of the whole animal from nutrition, environment and lifestyle is explored throughout all courses, meaning there is always something new to be learnt."

Here are 3 of Sophie's first-aid top tips!

1. Lemon juice or vinegar applied to a wasp sting alongside a cool pack can really ease pain and neutralise the wasp venom.

2. When stemming a bleed, apply firm pressure for a minimum of 10 minutes. No peeking, otherwise that will disturb the clot that is forming.

3. A normal dog pulse rate is 60-120bpm depending on size and fitness. A fast pulse rate can indicate a problem such as pain, dehydration or even an internal bleed.

We genuinely hope these tips are helpful to you! Take care out there, and best wishes from Sophie and all of us at Purrfect Day Pet Care!
